The problem with broken tiles and grout
Cracked or missing tiles and failing grout can quickly lead to moisture issues, water damage, and mould growth, costing you far more if left untreated. Proper repairs not only restore your bathroom or kitchen’s appearance but also protect your home’s structure.
At Hammer and March Home Maintenance, we take a meticulous approach to inspecting and restoring tiled areas. Using quality adhesives and professional tools, we replace tiles, seal joints, and ensure a durable, watertight finish. Where necessary, we also assess whether deeper waterproofing repairs are needed to prevent future problems.
Damaged and discoloured silicone seal
Old, mouldy, or deteriorated silicone seals around showers, baths, or sinks don’t just look unpleasant, they can allow water to seep behind tiles and damage walls or floors.
Our silicone seal replacement service involves removing all deteriorated silicone and replacing it with a clean, smooth finish that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The result is a refreshed space that’s hygienic, watertight, and visually seamless.

FAQs
-
Yes. We can handle basic tiling jobs and replace broken tiles. Where a broken or cracked tile needs to be removed and replaced, it is more cost-effective if you have some of the replacement tiles ready for us.
-
Unless they are readily available, tiles can be difficult to match. It may be best to contact a tiling contractor or tile manufacturer for this.
-
Yes, if your grout is otherwise in excellent condition, grout paint may be a viable option for restoring it to like-new condition. However, we strongly recommend repairing any damaged areas first to avoid water damage to your property.
-
Not necessarily. Most tile installers, unless they come back the following day, do not seal because the grout must cure first. There is no cause for concern as long as your tiler employed the proper materials and methods to apply the grout. However, it is something you should do to keep your grout looking its best because sealed grout is much easier to keep clean as it will be water-resistant, preventing the growth of mould and dirt.
-
Grout sealers degrade with time, so you'll need to reseal grout on a floor every three to five years. Shower grout should be resealed once a year. Before resealing, always thoroughly clean the grout.
-
We recommend that any old silicone be removed. While new, fresh silicone can be applied to old silicone and adhere to it, the bond will be weaker than if it were applied to a clean surface. Applying sealant to a seal that doesn’t function as intended does not work.
-
We do not recommend patchwork or applying sealant to a seal that doesn’t function as intended. We can replace sections of the damaged silicone depending on situations such colour matching and the surrounding environment. However often times, it is easier and more cost-effective to replace the whole section.
